Açaí powder is made from the deep purple fruit of the açaí palm (Euterpe oleracea), native to the Amazon region of South America. Because fresh açaí is highly perishable, the fruit pulp can be freeze-dried and ground into a concentrated powder for use outside its native growing region. Açaí has a distinctive earthy, slightly tart flavor with subtle notes of dark berries and chocolate. It is particularly rich in anthocyanins and other polyphenols and also contains fiber and naturally occurring unsaturated fats. Add açaí powder to smoothies, smoothie bowls, yogurt, chia pudding, oatmeal, energy bites, and other recipes.
