Description
Cilantro (Coriandrum sativum), also called coriander leaf, is a tender green herb with a bright, citrusy flavor used throughout Mexican, Central and South American, Indian, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, and other cuisines. Cilantro is the fresh leafy portion of the coriander plant; when the plant flowers and produces seeds, those seeds are harvested and used whole or ground as coriander spice. Both the tender leaves and stems are edible and can be used generously in salsas, chutneys, salads, curries, soups, tacos, grain bowls, and herb sauces. Cilantro provides beta-carotene, lutein, vitamin K1, polyphenols, flavonoids, and other beneficial plant compounds.
