fresh cranberries

Description

Fresh cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) are small, bright red berries native to North America with a distinctly tart flavor and a rich polyphenol profile. They are especially notable for their A-type proanthocyanidins, a less common form of proanthocyanidin associated with their well-studied urinary tract benefits. Cranberries also provide anthocyanins, quercetin and other flavonols, hydroxycinnamic acids, and fiber. Unlike sweetened dried cranberries and many cranberry juice products, fresh cranberries contain no added sugar, making them an excellent way to incorporate the whole fruit and its diverse protective plant compounds into meals.
