Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herb in the mint family with soft green leaves and a fresh lemony aroma. Traditionally used as both a culinary and medicinal herb, lemon balm is particularly rich in rosmarinic acid and other protective plant compounds associated with its calming, antioxidant, and immune-supportive properties. The tender leaves can be added fresh to foods and beverages or dried for tea. Lemon balm is exceptionally easy to grow, returning each year and spreading readily throughout the garden.
