A few years ago my grandma taught me to add turnips to my mashed potatoes. I was reluctant at first, being the traditional mashed potato loyalist that I am, but she quickly changed my mind and now this is my absolute favorite way to prepare mashed potatoes. The turnips add a subtly sweet and nutty flavor to the potatoes that is oh so delicious!

Ingredients
2 pounds russet potatoes peeled and quartered
1 pounds turnips peeled and quartered
4 cloves garlic peeled
½ cups half & half cream
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoons kosher salt
½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1 sprigs fresh thyme smashed
1 sprigs fresh rosemary smashed
¼ cups fresh chives minced

Wowzers! Totally delicious. This is delicious even without the fresh herbs. I just use herbamere instead of salt.
