This extra flavorful beef stew will easily become a family favorite! Omit the chili peppers if you have young children and just use them as a garnish for those who enjoy a bit of spice! We like to serve this with Basic White Jasmine Rice for a balanced meal. 

Ingredients

Beef

2 pounds beef stew meat
2 tablespoons fish sauce
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoons coconut sugar
1 teaspoons Chinese 5 spice powder

Stew

2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 medium onions chopped
6 cloves garlic crushed
1 lemongrass stalks finely chopped (inner lower part of the stalk only)
1½ cups diced tomatoes (about 2 medium)
3 whole star anise
1 cinnamon sticks
2 cups water (or chicken stock)
1 teaspoons sea salt
4 large carrots cut into thick rounds
2 thai chili peppers chopped

Garnish

2 small daikon radishes peeled and thinly sliced
3 cups chopped napa cabbage
1 bunches cilantro
1 cups fresh mint
1 cups fresh basil
3 green onions sliced into rounds
